I have noticed lots of benefits in my time spent embroidering, and you are bound to see these benefits as well if you give it a go. Plus, it’s so lovely to have beautiful works of art to display around your home and gift to friends and family. So why do people love modern embroidery so much? A recent survey of our Maker’s Academy members found that the overwhelmingly main reason they enjoy making our crafts is for the mental health benefits.Īs Luxury embroidery makers Hand and Lock say, these mental health benefits include alleviating stress, lowering blood pressure, decreasing heart rate, being mindful, and expressing yourself. And, of course, creating patterns with a modern flair! I think of modern embroidery as a form of embroidery that is more accessible and enjoyable for us in our busy day and age. Hand embroidery is a slow craft, which is still practiced by many people worldwide, in many different forms, including modern embroidery. And just like me, so many of them have fallen head over heels in love with this amazing craft. Most of these women were beginners when we started, and they’ve transformed into confident makers and made hundreds of amazing pieces. I’ve taught hundreds of lovely women how to embroider since I opened the Maker’s Academy earlier this year. Well, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s totally achievable to stitch beautiful things, even as a beginner! Other times, it's helpful to only trace a single line, even over thicker parts of the letters.Have you noticed so many beautiful embroidery creations popping up on Instagram and Pinterest and thought oooh I’d love to try that but it looks too hard? In some cases that might mean tracing around the entire letter shape and filling in the letters with satin stitch. ![]() Place a piece of tracing paper over the printed monogram. Type the letters you want to use and then print them out at the size you need. Of course, you can do this yourself to create monogram patterns. The letters in the free pattern are inspired by a free font called Euphoria Script and adapted to be more suitable for embroidery. A whipped backstitch would also work well. For a fuller look, try stitching with more strands or in a chunkier stitch like chain stitch. Mark the letter(s) you're using on your fabric with the method of your choice, using a water-soluble stabilizer or tracing paper for dark or thick fabrics.įor more delicate monograms, embroider with two to three strands using stem stitch. ![]() There's no reason why you can't stitch a giant monogram. Use software or your printer's settings to adjust the size. Printing the image sized to fit on a US Letter size page will give you monograms that are a little over 1" tall. These free patterns are simple and quick to stitch, and while they are in a script type, they're casual enough for everyday use. Embroidering first and last initials with french knot periods after each or stitching only one letter may look a little more relaxed and fun. Stitching three letters with the initial of the last name in the middle is a traditional (and somewhat formal) style.
